EMERGE 2005 Day Two! (Wednesday)

Haha.. at the request of camEl I shall take some time off from my schoolwork to finish the Emerge posts.. School's really busy these days.. this time its not mugging nonstop, but sketching and shading and making models nonstop -_-. Which still beats mugging actually =))

Today i dragged myself out of bed at 6 am, changed and rushed breathlessly into a cab to fly to church to start queueing for the 10am service (yes, TEN am service.). I reached there at 7.15, and, youths being youths, and kiasu Singaporean youths at that, there were already one big bunch of people waiting patiently at the long staircase that lead from ground floor straight to b4.

OOooh.. noticed the intimidating security guards patrolling the church grounds with their black submachine guns.. Haha..

Took this pic once i was comfortably seated in the auditorium.. Haha.

These are the church dancers practicing onstage before the session..

And the morning session came and went. And then it was time for the afternoon's main event: Word Power! (For the day before the event was Talentime. So sad I had to miss it to practice for POS. I heard it was wonderful.. with competitors putting up items like dance, song, drama, and songwriting. =(. My cell group member was in a dance group called Urban Synergy. They won dance category i think. Congrats =). Pity i couldnt see ya'all perform. Nvm. Gonna catch it next year =))

For this year, 6 teams got into the finals: NTU, NUS, CHC-KL, East sec school cluster, JC/CI cluster, and SIM/SMU. Its a very tough competition, requiring participants to memorise FORTY Bible PARAGRAPHS from various verses, taking tests just to get past the prelim rounds. Once they pass the final stage, they need to cram in TWENTY more paragraphs, bringing the grand total to 60. Furthermore they need to have general Bible knowledge, such as, who was from what city, who had how many sons, etc etc. Really amazing, the teams. Wonder how they can find the sheer amount of time needed for it.

The challenge included games like Wheel of Bible Knowledge, and the Pyramid game... here's a pic:

These were the judges.. haha.. can see the scoreboard at the screen's bottom.

Soon, the SIM/SMU group emerged the winner, making a stunning comeback from trailing even the sec school cluster (which was the lowest-scorer =/) to clinching first prize. Which was a swEet HP pda. 2nd prize was a $600 digicam, and 3rd was a Zen Micro. I think.

And after that, more queueing, and the night session came and went. I took the church shuttle bus back to Tampines. Haha. Good thing for all 3 nights they provide free transport to all major town centres =)) or else i'd be broke from cab fares -_-;.
